District 7 ADDY Awards for Utopia Brand Identity

Tactical Magic received two gold District 7 ADDY awards – matching the highest number received by any agency in Memphis – for separate elements of the Utopia Animal Hospital brand identity launch: logo and stationery. Utopia Animal Hospital opened on Madison Avenue in Midtown Memphis, late in 2008.

District 7 ADDY awards honor the best advertising-related creative work submitted from an area covering five states. The winning work will next be judged against entries from all across the nation in June.

Memphis agencies celebrate District 7 ADDY awards with reception

Local agencies scored big in the recent American Advertising Federation regional competition, winning more than two dozen top awards in a contest that saw nearly 200 entries from firms in a five-state region.

Winners of the District 7 ADDYs were announced last month in Baton Rouge, La. Advertising federation clubs from Tennessee, Alabama, Georgia, Louisiana and Mississippi faced off in the competition.

The awards were presented to area companies during a ceremony Thursday at the Holiday Inn at the University of Memphis.

Top winners from the regional competition will compete for national honors next month in Washington.

"This is a great showing from the Memphis advertising community and indicative of the quality work we all produce," said Marcia Anthony, an account executive at WPTY Channel 24 and chairman of the ADDYs. "We continue to increase our presence in the region and on the national stage."

In the recent regional contest, Memphis firms won 11 gold and 14 silver awards.

And a special "Judges Award" was presented to Red Deluxe. The Memphis brand development agency was singled out for its campaign for Mississippi-based Sycamore Bank.

Brian Sullivan, principal at CS2 advertising, which took home two golds and five silvers, said current economic challenges have helped some local firms.

"Regional companies may be getting more business because clients are less likely to want to pay higher prices that national firms tend to charge," Sullivan said. "It's an opportunity to boost our foundation and get more recognition for our work."

Richard Williams, associate creative director at archer%3emalmo, agreed.

"It's gratifying when people in your industry acknowledge your work and creativity," said Williams, whose firm picked up one gold and four silvers. "The level of competition in this city is amazing and I believe anyone in this group of regional winners has the potential to stand out at the national awards."

The local ADDYs are sponsored by the Memphis Advertising Federation, a member association of advertising and media professionals.

Proceeds from the competitions benefit the organization's educational programs, public service projects and government relations initiatives.
